In 1979, the Gators went 0-10-1, making it the worst season in Florida history. In 1980, head coach Charles B. “Charley” Pell and All-American Cris Collinsworth led a remarkable one-year turnaround for the Gators with an 8-4 overall record and a 35–20 Tangerine Bowl win over the Maryland Terrapins. It was the first time in the history of major college football that a winless team received a bowl bid the following season. This incredible 1980 Gators design was found on all of their programs from that season.
